About Pottery Lagos

Form, Earth, and the Freedom to Create

Pottery Lagos was built on a simple belief: art belongs in everyday hands.

Long before opening pottery spaces in Lagos, Daniba Dan-Princewill learned to work with her hands through practice and study. Her journey began in the art rooms of The Lagoon Secondary School under the guidance of Mrs Ubah, grew at Cinco Ranch High School in Texas, and widened through art and theatre electives at Abilene Christian University.

Across different rooms, schools and cities, one truth held: working with physical materials like raw clay gives people a direct way to express themselves and take ownership of what they make.

An Alali Creative Project

Pottery Lagos is an initiative of Alali.

Alali Gallery shows finished works and hosts exhibitions and cultural gatherings. Pottery Lagos brings you into the making itself: at Alali Studio in Victoria Island, at our tables in Lekki, Ojodu and Ikeja GRA, or at your own home or office. Anyone can sit down, pick up the tools and shape something real with their own hands.

Why Clay? Hand-Building and, Soon, the Wheel

Working with clay asks for patience and attention. It is plain, quiet and honest.

There is real confidence in holding a block of clay and realising your own hands can turn it into something that is yours. You can start with hand-building (pinching, coiling and working with slabs), and from 15/11/2026, take a turn at the pottery wheel in Victoria Island. You do not need expensive tools or a background in art. Once you see what you can make from raw earth, that confidence stays with you long after you leave the table.

Grounded in the Lagos Creative Scene

Lagos moves fast. For the city's creative culture to stay strong, it needs welcoming spaces where people can slow down, practise a skill and build together.

Through Pottery Lagos, Daniba continues to build spaces that support the city's arts community from the ground up, with private pottery sessions, group gatherings, team sessions and The Clay Eight, a month of pottery and sculpting.

Sit down at the wheel for the first time, or come back to work on what you have learned. The studio is open for you to get your hands in the clay and make something of your own.
